Gecko Consultancy Training Modules

Gecko Consultancy offers a range of training modules for care providers including:

Behaviours and their underpinning issues
The impact of the traumas is connected to the presenting behaviours in the here and now.
The need to look beyond the presenting behaviour and to understand that behaviour indicates need. We explore the negative explanations given for young peoples behaviour e.g. attention seeking, manipulative; and reframe them as unmet need.
Therapeutic Strategies to address behaviours and underpinning issues
How to work proactively to address behaviours and meet underlying needs.
Therapeutic alternatives to behaviourist strategies are taught, enabling the carers to feel confident in their strategies and language with the young person. They are encouraged to use their own experiences and challenged to change their approach where previous strategies have not been successful.
The concept of charge v control is explored and the reality of how sometimes both children and adults become stuck in negative cycles.
The use of consequences, both positive and negative: the theme of doing things for young people because they are good for them not because they have been good.
An exploration of how language effects interactions: how to recognise structured and nurturing language and avoid critical or marshmallowing messages.
Direct work
An exploration of the direct therapeutic work the carers can participate in with the young person. The content of this topic will depend on the specific needs o the organisation and their clients.
